No one is safe from bike theft, it seems. Reports emerged on Wednesday morning that a burglar stole 10 police bicycles from a police storage room in San Antonio, Texas earlier this month, according to KSAT, a local news outlet.

The break-in was discovered on November 6, when an officer doing a routine check of the facility discovered a portion of the wire fence had been cut away to create an opening.

Surveillance footage later revealed that someone had climbed through the hole, although thick bamboo surrounding the area of the break-in means police are unable to say how the man managed to get away with all 10 bikes.

The ten bikes include three Trek Alphas, one Trek Roscoe, a Trek 400, a KHS, and several “police bikes” with no specific make or model.

"This unfortunate event illustrates the brazenness of thieves," the department said in a statement. "This/these actor(s) cut through a fenced-off area, damaging City property during this theft. When found the actor(s) will be arrested and charged with Burglary of a Building with the Intent to Commit Theft, a felony in Texas."

Each bike is estimated to be worth in the region of $800 to $900 when new, and a local bike shop owner estimates the thief will likely get about $300 to $400 for each bike by breaking each one down into parts and selling them in flea markets.
