CeramicSpeed's new OSPW Aero pulley wheel system
CeramicSpeed has given its OSPW Aero pulley wheel a minor makeover to make it stronger, more robust and better at removing debris.
The OSPW Aero has traditionally been centred completely around performance - the Danish brand says it is “the world's fastest pulley wheel system” - but the latest update has seen CeramicSpeed raid its mountain bike technology to incorporate the more robust ALPHA Disc system and its Active Debris Remover (ADR).
Both pieces of tech debuted on the Danish brand’s mountain bike range before making the jump across to its standard OSPW road pulley wheel system earlier this year. Now its aero pulley wheel has also received the same treatment as a part of what CeramicSpeed says is its “commitment to combining efficiency and durability”.
The Alpha Disc pulley wheels first appeared on CeramicSpeed’s SRAM Eagle offering and offers a more durable two-piece construction. This includes a narrow-wide tooth profile which is formed from a composite material that CeramicSpeed says “offers prolonged wear protection and noise reduction.” This is then attached to a central aluminium disc to add strength and stiffness.
Meanwhile, the patent-pending Active Debris Remover encloses the bearing to make it “virtually impossible for debris to enter the bearing”. A special groove pattern surrounding the dust cover then removes debris from the pulley wheel as it rotates.

The latest makeover adds durability to the already aerodynamic design of the OSPW Aero. It was last updated in 2022 as a part of a collaboration with aero expert Simon Smart of Drag2Zero, leading to a revised cage design that focussed on minimising the drag of the frontal area of the system, leading to an average claimed drag reduction of 40% and up to 60% on stock derailleurs - the Danish brand released a white paper to back up those claims.
These aerodynamic benefits remain the same on the latest updated version, which now also benefits from added robustness and durability. It also provides a slightly different aesthetic to its predecessor through a new “velocity-inspired pinstripe graphic”.
The new pulley wheel system is compatible with Shimano 9250/8150 systems.
